Lysosomes are called the digestive bags and also suicide bags. This is because they contain enzymes that help the cell to digest the food eaten by the organism. They are refered to as suicide bags, though, because when the cell gets older and older, the lysosomes suddenly blast and the enzymes digest the whole cell (which is in a way, suicidal).

Functions
1) Intracellular digestion
2) removal of dead cells
3) role in metamorphosis
4) Help in protein synthesis
5) Help in fertilization
