The SI unit of electric potential is the volt, which is defined as a joule per coulomb. Another physical quantity with the samedimension is electromotive force.

Electric potential is the amount of work done in bringing a charge from infinity to a point against an electric field.

⇒ Electric Potential (V) = Work done per unit charge

we know that work is expressed in Joules and charge in coulombs

⇒ Electric Potential (V) = Joule/coulomb

we know that Dimensional formula for Joule is [M L² T⁻²] and for coulomb dimensions are [I T]

Dimensions for Electric Potential = [M L² T⁻²]/[IT] = [ M L² T⁻³ I⁻¹ ]
