By formula, it's Product of either charge and their distance of separation.
Dipole moment is a system of two charges of equal magnitude and of opposite nature is separated by a distance.
U can tell the whole system is neutral and there no net effect. But the separation of opposite even in the atomic scale creates a difference, polarity in molecules which is responsible for many large scale phenomenon.
