Answer:

The direction of the movement of sugar in phloem is bidirectional. The general flow of sugar is translocation from the source to the sinks. Locations, where photosynthates or photosynthesis products are synthesized, are called as sources, like the leaves. Locations like the roots, shoots, etc are called sinks that receive sugar and other photosynthates. Sugar which is a photosynthate produced in the leaves travels to other parts of the plant through the phloem tissues. Translocation of sugar takes place by diffusion, sugar travels from an area of "higher concentration" to an area of "lower concentration". Highest leaves will send the sugar formed in an upward direction to the shoots and lower leaves will send in a downward direction to the roots.
