The biconcave shape gives them more surface area to accommodate haemoglobin efficiently. It also helps them to bend easily to pass through blood vessels. ... If the RBCs becomebiconvex shaped, they will not be able to accommodate haemoglobin and bend easily. Thus, cannot transport oxygen efficiently.
