Hi ,
**************************************
We know that ,
distance between two points ( x , y1 )
and ( x , y2 ) = | y2 - y1 |
*****************************************
Now ,
distance between ( 0 , -3 ) , ( 0 , -8 )
= | ( -8 ) - ( - 3 ) |
= | - 8 + 3 |
= | - 5 |
= - ( -5 )
= 5
Since | x | = - x if x < 0 .
I hope this helps you.
