The Rajput rulers dug out canals and tanks and collected rain water in artificial lakes for purpose of irrigation. Dams were also raised. Irrigation facilities improved agriculture and the economic condition of the cultivators though they sometimes had to suffer at the hands of some autocratic feudal chiefs.
