Under natural condition self pollination plants' genome is clean of lethal and negative recessive genes, while obligatory cross pollination plants (like also human being) carry many of them. On the other hand, obligatory selfed plants' variability is very low, and so is their survival expectation under changing conditions. Therefore, many wild plant species use a mix strategy. Cross pollination keeps their variability high, and self pollination keeps their genome clean, plus enables propagation under harsh condition. Under agriculture condition using self pollinated types for breeding enables easy identification and selection of desired traits.
