☁︎When the forest trees are cut down, the percolation of rain water into soil is reduced. A lot of rain water from deforested soil rushes into the rivers quickly, causing floods. Deforestation decreases the water holding capacity of soil which leads to floods. The eroded soil is carried by flowing rain water into rivers.☁︎

Answer:

Deforestation leads to

Increase in carbon dioxide gas in the atmosphere which causes the greenhouse effect. This greenhouse effect results in global warming.

Global warming not only leads to climatic changes ( such as droughts and floods) but also leads to desertifcation.

Deforestation also results in the following :

1. Land degradation

2. Soil erosion

3. Animals lose their habitat and hence become extinct.

EFFECT OF DEFORESTATION ON SOIL

Roots of tress hold the soil firmly and prevent it from soil erosion. If defforestation takes place then soil erosion will occur. The top layer of soil which is rich in humus and provides nutrients to plants will get eroded. The results in  land degradation and the fertility of the soil decreases. This land degradation results in desertification.

Desertification means the turning of fertile land into barren land on which no vegetation can be grown.

Hope my answer helps you. :)
