What is the effect of electric field on the drift velocity of free electron?

Between "collisions" with the metal lattice ions the free electrons are accelerated by the electric field and so increase their velocity along theelectric field direction. However because the lattice ions are vibrating more, that increase in velocity will not be as great, so the drift velocity is less.

Under the effect of electric field inside the conductor ,free electrons have random thermal velocities due to the room temperature and small velocities with which they drift towards the positive end of the conductor.
