As a result of the magnetic field associated with the current flow, inductors generate an opposing voltage proportional to the rate of change in current in a circuit. Inductance is caused by the magnetic field generated by electric currents flowing within an electrical circuit. Inductor is a passive element which stores the magnetic energy inside it's Magnetic field when an alternating current flows through it. Due to absence of magnetic field, no emf is Induced. So, voltage across the inductor is zero. Hence, inductor acts as a short circuit when supplied with DC.
