what is the effect of hypertonic solution on human RBCs

Hey!

When RBCs are placed in a hypertonic solution, then the RBCs shrink and shrivel up. This is because the cell sap in RBCs is of a more concentration than that of the hypertonic solution. The water inside flows out.  As a result of which, exosmosis takes place and the cell becomes flaccid due to plasmolysis..
