Angle of contact between a liquid and a solid is defined as the angle enclosed between the tangent to the liquid surface and the solid surface which is in contact with the liquid.

The angle of contact varies between 0 degree to 180 degree, i.e. sometimes it may be acute or sometimes it may be obtuse depending upon the conditions.

For the liquids which wet the surface of solid such as water and glass, the angle of contact is acute i.e. below 90 degree, while those for liquids which do not wet the surface of a solid such as mercury and glass, the angle of contact is obtuse i.e. above 90 degree.

The angle of contact of a liquid with a solid decreases with increase in temperature, because with the increase in temperature, the surface tension of liquid increases.
