The effect of the author choosing to conclude the story with Mrs.Baroda's suggestion that Gouvernail visit was as following :-

1. She has a good life and has a good relationship with her husband . When her husband, Gaston invites his old college friend , Gouvernail to stay for several weeks, she was not happy with that

2. She has a preconceived idea of the kind of man Gouvernail is even before he arrives she treat him a cynical , studious apperarance, when in fact he is anything that. Above all he is no bother : he makes no demands to her, he simply enjoys the opportunity to live there.

3. This thing bother Mrs. Baroda, she cannot seem to fogive him out , and she wishew that he would leave. Eventually, she decided to take care of her dreesmaking concern out of town and allow the men to rest of their alone visit

4. The night before she leaves, Gouvernail strolls out and sits beside her on a bench and begins to speak of many things. For a moment, she longs to touch his face and whisper to him, not of anything specific, but to make a connection. Being a "respectable woman," she will not do so. She leaves the next day, and for some time, resists her husband's attempts to have him visit again.

5. Mrs. Baroda then changed her mind, allowing that should Gouvernail visit again, she will be very nice to him.

6. For the universal thought of pride in mind, we should always recall the type of guests Mrs. Baroda has.
