The effects of UV rays on living organisms are- ageing of the skin, skin cancer, mutations, inflammation of corona, cataract etc.
What are UV rays?
- UV rays are harmful ultraviolet rays coming from the sun and affect living organisms.
- The body easily absorbs these UV radiations and the high energy UV rays break down the proteins and DNA of living organisms. This results in mutation.
- The small exposure to UV rays causes skin cancer, ageing of the skin, inflammation of corona and sometimes, permanently damaging of eyes.
Note:
The ozone layer present in the stratosphere acts as a covering that absorbs the harmful ultraviolet rays and hence, prevents them from entering the surface of the Earth.
