Hi Friend
___________
The electronic configuration of Chromium (Cr) = (expected )[Ar] 4s13d4
                                                                                =  (Actual)    [Ar] 4s13d5

1) half filled and fully filled electronic configuration are more stable

prmkulk1978: Please check the configuration again
prmkulk1978: It's 4s13d5
lishu2: ya
lishu2: but y
lishu2: ???

Element is Chromium
Atomic number 24
so electronic configuration is
1s2 2s2 2p6 3s2 3p6 4s2 3 d 4 expected.
But as half filled or full filled orbitals have greater stability so one electron from 4s1,will promoted to 3d5
So chromium configuration
1s2 2s2 2p6 3s2 3p6 4s1 3d5

lishu2: hey what is half filled
prmkulk1978: There subshells in each shells called as s, p, d, f
prmkulk1978: S subshells can hold 2
prmkulk1978: P subshells 6 electrons d 10 electrons
prmkulk1978: So here 4s1 means it can hold 2 but it's half filled with one electron
lishu2: but why not in element having 28 as atomic number
