Answer:

Sodium has only one electron in its outermost shell. So, sodium atom will donate one electron to chlorine atom and forms a sodium ion i.e. Na+. On the other side chlorine atomic number is 17, its electronic configuration is 2,8,7.

Answer:

  • Sodium valance electron is 1 as its electronic configuration is 2 8 1 and chlorine valance electron is 7 as its electronic configuration is 2 8 7.So na donates one electron to Cl.
  • With the transfer of the electron, however, they become electrically charged, and combine into salts through the formation of ionic bonds. ... Because the sodium ion has a positive charge, and the chlorine ion has a negative charge, they are attracted to each other, and form an ionic bond.
