In the end of the play merchant of Venice, Shylock loses the bond. He is not able to take a pound of flesh from Antonio's body as the provisions of the bond state that not a single drop of blood should shed from the Christian's body and the amount of flesh extracted should be exactly equal to 1 pound.
Antonio and gratiano had to give away their precious rings (given by their wives portia and nerissa respectively) to the young lawyer (Portia) and the clerk (nerissa). They did not know that they are their wives.
This leads to the ring episode which is an important sub plot of the play. Nerissa and Portia have a bit fun with their husbands and finally reveal that they were dressed as the lawyer and the clerk. With this the play ends in a romantic way.
Thank you. Hope this helped you.

Answer:

During the trial, Portia explained the value of mercy. But it makes no difference to Shylock. Portia uses her logic and clever wit. She agrees with Shylock that the bond is binding and cannot be broken. But she points out that while the bond allows for a pound of flesh, it does not allow for the shedding of blood. Shylock losses the case because it is impossible for him to cut a pound of flesh without shedding blood. According to the law, his property would be confiscated and divided equally between the city of Venice and Antonio. The play ends on a happy note with the ship's of Antonio arriving safely and Bassanio marrying Portia.
