Answer: \frac{4}{15}

Step-by-step explanation:

Let the numerator be n.

and denominator be d.

Then the original fraction is \frac{n}{d}

Numerator increased by 1 = n+1

The obtained fraction is \frac{n+1}{d}=\frac{1}{3}

                                       ⇒3.(n+1)=d

                                       ⇒ 3n + 3 = d      -----------(1)

Denominator increased by 1 = d+1

The obtained fraction is \frac{n}{d+1}=\frac{1}{4}

                                       ⇒ 4n = 1.(d+1)

                                       ⇒ 4n = d +1  --------------(2)

Performing  (2) - (1)

⇒ 4n - 3n - 3 = 1

⇒ n = 1 + 3

n = 4

Substituting n= 4 in (2)

⇒ 4.4 = d +1

⇒ d = 16-1

d = 15

The required fraction is \frac{4}{15}
