What is the equation of the line that passes through the point (6,11) and is parallel to the line with the following equation?
y = 2/3x - 5

Answer:

parallel to line y = 2/3x - 5 , i.e the equation assumed should be y = 2/3 + k where k is some constant

now substitute (6,11) in the equation that we have assumed to get the value of k

y  - \frac{2}{3}x  = k

11  \:  -  \frac{2}{3} \times 6  = k \\

k = 7

so the equation satisfying the above question will be

y = 2/3x + 7
