Given :- what is the estimated difference of 804 - 537

Solution :-

we know that, in order to find the estimated difference ,

  • we have to round each number to the nearest hundred or nearest 10 and then subtracting .

Round to nearest 100 :-

→ 804 - 537 = ?

then,

→ Rounding 804 to nearest 100 = 800 (since tens digit is less than 5)

→ Rounding 537 to nearest 100 = 500 (since tens digit is less than 5)

therefore,

→ Required estimated difference = 800 - 500 = 300 (Ans.)

Round to nearest 10 :-

→ 804 - 537 = ?

then,

→ Rounding 804 to nearest 10 = 800 (since tens digit is less than 5)

→ Rounding 537 to nearest 10 = 540 (since unit digit (7) is greater than 5)

therefore,

→ Required estimated difference = 800 - 540 = 260 (Ans.)

From both we can see that, 260 is less estimated difference which is near to actual difference (267) .

Hence, we can conclude that the estimated difference of 804 - 537 will be equal to 260 .
