An estuary in simple terms is a water body that is found at the junction or meeting point of rivers and seas. This water body is home to plants and animals that are capable of thriving in brackish water, which is a mixture of salty sea water and fresh water from the land. Animals primarily rely on estuaries for food, stopover during migration and breeding. Because of this, estuaries are considered to be very productive systems all over the world.
