1) There was a majority of sinhala which is 81% and minority of tamils which is 18%
2)Tamils are divided in two groups which is 1- indian tamils{7%} 2- sri lankan tamils{13%} and the other 1% is christian which are both sinhala and tamils.

Srilanka has a diverse population.The sinhalese community forms the majority of population( 74 percent) with tamil and 18 percent who are mostly concentrated in north and east of island, forming the large ethnic minority.
