Answer:

State level :

Prize money from winning State Level tournaments.

Indian Railways organizes a tournament at State Level where it awards the winner a job which ensures a constant source of income.

Also companies like Tata Steel, SAIL and Nalco organize regular tournaments with huge cash prizes. Also sponsorships spot talent in these events and take them into their wing.

National Level :

Players at this level are generally recognised by potential sponsorship agencies and receive reasonable funding. Olympic Gold Quest, Li-ning India and Yonex India are to name a few sponsors for these players.

Winning tournaments at national level can also help in securing a steady state of income in the public sector from the government in addition to the cash rewards.

Also, some badminton academies spot potential talent and sponsor their equipments and tournament outings.

Premier Badminton League is also a great source of income for young shuttlers.

International Level:

Major chunk of the income at this level comes from playing and winning in the series of tournaments organized by the BWF. The Super Series and Super Series Premier events give enormous cash rewards at each level.

Once one starts playing at the international level, national/international brands endorse you and this becomes an alternate source of income for top ranked players.

That being said, the sponsorship scene may look like a fairy tale ride for the Indian shuttlers but it's not so. Many upcoming players are unable to get sponsorships which is preventing them from competing at international tournaments and improving their rankings.

There have been instances of players running from pillar to post for sponsorships to compete in the international circuit since the travelling itself is too expensive. The primary reason is less allocation of funds in this area and also the sport being eclipsed by other popular sports and lesser media coverage. Only when PV Sindhu made it to the Olympic final did the sport garner some chunk of the daily news.

The Badminton Association of India needs to step in at this moment when there is a great talent pool of players wishing to choose a career in badminton and high on motivation due to the recent performances of Indian shuttlers at the international level.
