This phase doesn't require direct sunlight but it depends on the products of the light reaction, i.e., ATP and NADPH beside CO2 and water that drive the process leading to the synthesis of food more accurately the sugars .

Otginally this process ia known as carbon-fixation or Photosynthesis Carbon Reduction ( PCR ) cycle.

i ) C3
first product of CO2 fixation is PGA ( C3 acid )

ii ) C4
First product of CO2 fixation is OAA ( C4 acid )
