The plateau is bounded on the east and west by the Ghats, while its northern extremity is the Vindhya Range. The Deccan's average elevation is about 2,000 feet (600 m), sloping generally eastward; its principal rivers, the Godavari, Krishna, and Cauvery, flow from the Western Ghats eastward to the Bay of Bengal

Deccan Plateau: This triangular area lies South of the Narmada. The Satpura mountain range marks its broad boundary in North. The deccan plateau is higher in the West and slopes gently east wards. An extension of it is visible in the North-East. The plateau is separated from the hills in the North-East by a geological fault. The hillsare Garo, Khasi and Jaintia.
