In (c), the sulfur atom has a formal charge of +1. Continuing with thenitrogen, we observe that in (a) thenitrogen atom shares three bonding pairs and has one lone pair and has a total of 5 valence electrons. Theformal charge on the nitrogen atom is therefore 5 - (2 + 6/2) = 0.
