Dear Amanda,
Thank you a lot for your last letter. It was a pleasant surprise to hear from you. I’m sorry I haven’t written to you earlier but I had to organize some things concerning my trip that I undertook this summer break.
As you most likely remember I’ve constantly wanted to visit some remarkable places. And now, at last, off I went! But you’d never guess where I’ve chosen to spend my holiday. It’s Antarctica! You would never think of it, would you? I’m so excited about the whole event!
The people I travel with are incredible. It’s their fourteenth expedition there. They know every path in the snow by heart and they are very helpful. They share their knowledge and experience with me. Would you believe that here everything is different? You even need to set your tent in a special way. It’s all very challenging. Tomorrow we are making arrangements to move further up North so I may not be able to stay in touch for a while. The food here is mostly tinned. Not much of a variety, but I definitely came to this place to explore and visit the beautiful sites and not the food!
It is truly an amazing place, virtually every space is covered with ice and snow. There are a few natives here, but other than them, it is almost usually uninhabitable. Most jobs here are for scientific researchers and exploration. I loved looking at the penguins! They are exceptionally cute creatures and Antarctica is filled with them along with various other wildlife. Did you know, I saw a polar bear for the first time in my life yesterday! Isn’t that extraordinary?
Anyway, I’d like to meet you when I get back. Hope you are enjoying your holiday. Do write back soon.
