(a + b)² - (a + b)² = 4ab

GIVEN:- 4ab

TO FIND:- formula for 4ab

SOLUTION:-

  • Algebra is an area of mathematics that substitutes letters for numbers.
  • An algebraic equation illustrates a scale, what is performed on one side of the scale with a number is also performed on either side of the scale.

As we know,

(a + b)² = a² + 2ab + b²

(a – b)² = a² – 2ab + b²

By subtracting

(a + b)² - (a - b)²

= (a² + 2ab + b²) - (a² - 2ab + b²)

= a² + 2ab + b² - a² + 2ab + b²

= 2ab + 2ab ( a² and b² will be subtracted)

= 4ab

Hence, 4ab = (a + b)² - (a + b)²
