what is the formula of a compound in which the element Y forms ccp lattice and atoms of X occupy 1/3 of tetrahedral voids??
is it Y12X8

No of tetrahedral voids in a ccp lattice Y is "twice" as that of the no of atoms of Y.
according to the question: atoms X fills 1/3 of the voids present in Y
and number of Voids present in Y =2Y

since X fills 1/3 of voids the equation can be made as
X=(1/3)×2Y
X=(2/3) Y

Hence the formula of the compound becomes:
X₃Y₂

NOTE:
For Tetrahedral compounds the number void will be Twice as that of number of atoms in Y

For Octahedral compounds the number void will be same as that of number of atoms in Y
