Another name for these oxides is acid anhydride.

When these oxides are dissolved in stoichiometric water, and acid can be produced:

SO3+H2O→H2SO4 and nitrous acid, nitric acid, carbonic acid etc..........I leave it to you to write the equations for the other examples. Industrial outlet of these oxides is responsible for the phenomenon of acid rain.
