Bleaching powder is called CaOCl₂ (Calcium hyphochloride)

How is it formed? After the chlor-alkali process , sodium hydroxide , hydrogen and chlorine is formed. When quick lime that is CaO reacts with Cl it forms CaOCl₂ that is bleaching powder.

It used as disinfectants and to purify water.
