Carbide is C⁻⁴
Ex : calcium carbide ; CaC₂
Calcium carbide is an unusual molecule in that it is a covalent compound, and not an ionic one as you are assuming it to be. It forms 3-way structural bonds:
two carbons are bonded to each other with a triple bond, while the calcium atom is bonded to the two carbon atoms.
