The four main types of reading are as follows -

• Skimming : The skimming is a type of reading which includes very quick movements of eye,in order to quickly get a basic overview of the whole reading content. The skimming is basically targeted towards finding specific necessary contents without the reading the whole content.

Example - Quickly reading headlines of the newspaper.

• Scanning : Scanning is very similar to the skimming but in the scanning the reader quickly goes through the whole reading  content in order to get a specific data from.

Example - Searching a specific word in the dictionary.

• Intensive : The intensive reading is a type of reading where the reader reads a text in a detailed manner for learning something.

Example - Reading blogs or news articles.

• Extensive : The extensive reading is a type of reading where the reader reads something for general enjoyment purpose.

Example - Reading story books, magazines etc.
