What is the fourth proportional in the following series: 3,8,23,?

let a ,d ,c and d are three numbers are in proporyion

a=3

b=8

c=23

then ,

a×d=b×c

3×d=8×23

3d =184

d. =184÷3

d. =61.33

forth proportional in the series 3,8,23 is 61.33

◼If the given numbers are in proportion, the ration of the first to second and to the third to fourth is same.

Let a, b, c and d are in proportion so

 \frac{a}{b} = \frac{c}{d}

where all these values are non zero.

So, in 3,8,23 to find third proportional

Let the fourth proportional be X.

Since all these values are in proportion

▶3 : 8 :: 23 : x


 \frac{3}{8} = \frac{23}{x}

▶On cross multiplication ,

▶3 × x =23×8



x = \frac{23 \times 8}{3}



x = \frac{184}{3}



x = 61.33
