K DENOTES THE FIRST SHELL , L DENOTES THE SECOND SHELL AND M DENOTES THE THIRD SHELL AND IT IS SO ON.. .. In other words the KLMN notation only indicates the only number of electrons an atom has with each principal quantam number.

The K shell is the first shell, L is the second shell, M is the third, and N is the fourth shell.

  • The electrons in a snippet route around its nexus in an indirect path. This path is an imaginary bone and is known as orbit.
  • Each snippet contains n number of shells in which the electrons are suitable to move freely. The shells are called KLMN shells.
  • Each of these shells has subshells in them which are known as orbitals.
  • The first shell is the K- shell which has only one subshell,  enwrapping 2 electrons.
  • The alternate shell is the L- shell which contains two subshells( s, p), accommodating 8 electrons in total.
  • The third subshell, M- shell comprises three subshells( s, p, d), carrying 18 electrons.
  • N- shell is the fourth shell of a snippet which has four subshells( s, p, d, f) having 32 electrons in them.
  • Thus, these shells also denote the top amount a number of the orbitals.
