NEWS is said to be the acronym (or is it backronym?) of “NORTH, EAST, WEST AND SOUTH” some say it will be 'Notable Events, Weather and Sports'. Historically speaking, the word “NEWS” can be found to be used as early as the 14th century late Middle English and was used as a plural form of the adjective “new” or “new thing”.

Some theorists are propagating the explanation of 'NOTABLE EVENTS, WEATHER AND SPORTS' as the correct one.
