She was born in Anjezë Gonxhe Bojaxhiu, Albanian.

She was born on 26 August 1910 and died on 5 September 1997.

She has received many honours including Ramon Magsaysay piece prize, Nobel peace prize. She later received the Bharat Ratna award in India. She was admired for her charitable work. She was appraised for her great work but criticised at the same time for her abortion and contraception and also for her poor conditions.
