what is the function of an earth wire? why is it necessary to earth for metallic appliances ?

In case of electric shock earth wire takes excess of electrons and put it into the earth because earth has neutral concentration of electron it is necessary for appliances to have earth wire because sometimes live wire comes in contact with metal body of appliance it will lead to electric shock

is to prevent from short circuit.it is necessary to connect with appliances to prevent the from over loading and short circuit
