The function of brushes in the electric generator are as follows –

1. Brushes are used to conduct current in the electric generator, be it either AC generator or DC generator.

2. In AC generators, they picks up the current and conducts Alternating current in the generator, being the exciter and provide excitation

3. In DC generators, they collects Direct current. And conducts current for the electric generator forming the circuit from commutator to external circuit.
