Hello deepu,

Chromosomes are thread-like structures present both in plant and animal cells. They contain the genetic material known as DNA which means Deoxyribo nucleic acid. It's main function is to carry genetic material and traits from parents to children.

The nucleus contains chromosomes, which appears as rod - shaped structure only when cell is about to divide. Chromosomes contains information for inheritance of features from parents to next generation in the form of DNA (Deoxyribo Nucliec Acid) molecules. Chromosomes are made up of DNA and protein. DNA molecules contains the information essential for constructing and organising cells. Functional segments of DNA are known as genes. In a cell which is not dividing this DNA act as part of chromatin material.
