The diaphragm separate the thoracic cavity, containing the heart and lungs, from abdominal cavity and perform an important function in respiration as the diaphragm contracts the volume of thoracic cavity increases and negative pressure creats which help in inspiration and when diaphragm contracts thoracic cavity decreases and expiration occurs.
