Enzymes are biocatalyst that help in speeding up  metabolic processes.

They are vital for life and help in breaking down complex food to simpler food substances.

For instance:Salivary amylase helps in breaking down of complex molecules

Any enzymes that breaks down protein into its building blocks, amino acids, is called a protease, which is a general term. Our digestive tract produces a number of these enzymes, but the three proteases are pepsin, trypsin and chymotrypsin.
