If there is some leakage of current in the wires of the appliance and the appliance is having a metal body then the body will also become a conductor and if we touch it then the current wil flow through our bodies to the ground and once the circuit is complete we will recieve a fatal shock. to prevent this, earthing is used. in this instead of our body, a wire carries the current to the earth and protects us from shock.

Earth wire is used in electrical instrument because it connect the current to the earth and avoid flow of electricity outside the wire or instrument.

Hope it helps
