what is the function of large air cavities present in parenchyma in aquatic plants?

these are the necessary adaptation for buoyancy.... they are called aerenchyma

as they are persent to make them float on water they prevent them to drown.

when these cavities are present in parenchyma then they are called as arenchyma.
