Mitochondria is an organelle is which produce energy during respiration. They are known as the powerhouse of the cell. They are present both in animal cell and plant cell.

most prominent role of mitochondria is to produce the energy currency of cell,ATP(i.e., phosphorylation of ADP) through oxidative respiration process and to regulate metabolism.
