Hi Friend!

The nucleus acts like the brain of the cell since it coordinates the  the cell's activities, which include growth, intermediary metabolism, protein synthesis, and reproduction (cell division). 
It contains the genetic material of the cell i.e. 
multiple linear DNA molecules organized into structures called chromosomes. These help in cell division..
That is the basic function done by the nucleus..
