Receptors are a wide range of tiny things in a body. they can be olfactory (things in your nose) to nocireptors (pain receptors in ur skin).
They may have many functions, but they all have something common, they respond to a stimulus (something like a bad smell, which activates your olfactory receptors) by sending a electrical signal to brain(that's how you know u are smelling something bad). if receptors don't work, the particular sensory part dosent work (you can't smell if olfactory receptors don't work)

Hey mate

Question :

Answer :

The function of receptors is to receive information

from the environment through the neuron present

in the body (receptors ). When the receptors do

not work properly or there is an obstruction in the

activity, then the sense shown / responded by the

receptors will not take place. eg.such as during

cold we do not smell /cannot smell certain smells.

if such situations arise then we do not respond to

the information given by the neurons. .
