Answer:

Introduction on Rough and Smooth Endoplasmic Reticulum

RER-Rough Endoplasmic Reticulum SER-Smooth Endoplasmic Reticulum

They are found near the nucleus of the cell. They are found away from the nucleus in the cell.

Their function is to synthesize proteins. Their function is to synthesize lipids

Answer:

RER - Rough Endoplasmic Reticulum Is called rough because it has ribosomes attached to its cell wall and it produces proteins which is distributed by ER ( endoplasmic reticulum) to the cell organelles.

SER - Smooth Endoplasmic Reticulum does not have ribosomes attached to it's cell wall therefore it is called Smooth Endoplasmic Reticulum. it produces fat molecules or lipids important for cell function

Note:: Some of the proteins and lipids produced by SER and RER helps in building the cell membrane. This process is known as membrane biogenesis.
