Ribosomes also known as palade particles are the cell organelle which are found in both eukaryotes and prokaryotes .

The ribosomes in eukaryotes are 80S type made up of larger 60S and smaller 40S subunits. while in prokaryotes they are 70S type with 30S and 50S subunits.

Ribosomes are found freely in the cytoplasm along with their presence on the surface of RER , mitochondria and chloroplast.

The prime function of ribosomes is to carry out the protein synthesis ( it takes place through the process of translation ).
